Alejandro Piera is a Partner at GHP Abogados, where he leads the firm's aviation, international dispute resolution, environmental, sports law, and cross-border practices. He also serves as principal external counsel to a leading international organization throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
A recognized international lawyer, Alejandro has advised organizations such as ICAO, IATA, UNEP, UNDP, and numerous governments on complex regulatory, aviation, and international law matters. He served twice as Rapporteur of ICAO's Legal Committee and previously acted as Permanent Advisor to the United Arab Emirates Mission to ICAO in Montreal. He also served as Senior Legal Counsel at the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
In 2017, Alejandro was appointed by the 67th FIFA Congress as Vice-Chair of FIFA's Disciplinary Committee, on which he continues to serve as a member.
Alejandro is an accredited arbitrator at the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC), the Bucharest-Ilfov Commercial Arbitration Center (CAIB), and the Paraguayan Chamber of Arbitrators and Mediators (CAMP). He is also a member of the Editorial Board of McGill University's Annals of Air and Space Law.
He is the author of Greenhouse Gases from International Aviation: Legal and Policy Issues (Eleven International Publishing, 2015). Alejandro holds a PhD and LL.M. from McGill University and a B.C.L. from the National University of Asunción. In 2016, he received the Best Doctoral Thesis Award from the Association des professeures et professeurs de droit du Québec.
